Hey Wander Tribe,
You all it is January 2020. Can you believe we are a month into another decade. I sure can’t. I hope this year is filled with nothing but super dope vacations, tasty cuisine and bomb a** photos. But I got to spit game to you real quick.
Soooooooooo, I’m sure you all know that things are getting a little funky with the U.S. and Iran. I know, I know we’re a month in the new year and somehow the country has managed to step in some doodoo. But hey, we don’t have anything to do with that so don’t be scared to travel. Below are somethings I believe can give you piece of mind when considering traveling abroad.
THE STEP PROGRAM
First things first, I would like to suggest signing up for the Smart. Traveler. Enrollment. Program. also known as STEP. The program:
- Is a free service to allow U.S. citizens and nationals traveling and living abroad to enroll their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate
- Sends important info from the Embassy about safety conditions in your destination country, helping you make informed decisions about your travel plans
- Help the U.S. Embassy contact you in an emergency, whether natural disaster, civil unrest, or family emergency.
Travel Advisory Lists
Things are always changing, and can be hard to keep up with. Especially when it comes to what countries to visit and most importantly, is it safe? The U.S. has many resources to assist us with making travel plans and informing us of their recommendations of places to and not visit.
For example, the travel.state.gov site has the “List of countries with advisory levels” located here and a color coded map that helps point out embassies and consulates.
Wander tribe, I’m not trying to scare you here. I simply want to keep you all informed about what to look out for and how to safely plan trips abroad in the future. So don’t be scared, be proactive and alert. So consider enrolling in the STEP program and be sure to give the aforementioned website a glance over when considering travel abroad.
